Vedanta’s VAB organises football training camp for the youth from Navelim village

  • Football training camp organised by Vedanta’s Value-Added Business (VAB) in association with Sesa Football Academy (SFA) benefitted 40 youth

Navelim, Bicholim, 11th November: In order to promote sports in the rural areas and to identify the young sporting talents from the surrounding villages, Vedanta’s VAB in collaboration with Sesa Football Academy (SFA) & local sports club ‘Maina Super League’, organized a week-long football training camp at Maina-Navelim, Bicholim. The camp was conducted by the experienced coaches of Sesa Football Academy to nurture the footballing talent of local youth and to guide them to excel further in football. Coaches closely monitored all the participants throughout the camp and Star performers were identified, who will be trained further to hone up their skills. More than 40 young boys from Maina- Navelim village benefitted from this camp. The training camp was concluded with a friendly match between the trainees and the employees of Vedanta Value Added Business.

Vedanta’s Sesa Football Academy (SFA) is one of the high impact Sports development programs in Goa state contributing to the upliftment of football since more than two decades and has a track record of grooming over 200+ professional footballers. SFA aims to expand the reach of their grassroot sports development initiatives with emphasise on identifying and nurturing the budding sports talents through multiple initiatives such as pop-up football camps, Vedanta Football schools, Summer & Winter camps, Football training camps for the youth etc. Vedanta’s women football league is also remarkably contributing to the field of women football and has carved a path for many aspiring women footballers to shine at various sporting platforms.

About SESA Football Academy

An initiative of SESA Community Development Foundation (SCDF), SESA Football Academy (SFA) was founded in 1999 for the holistic development of the local youths through football. The academy has created the conditions for discovering, creating and building talent for football. SFA does not restrict itself to football trainings but involves in a long term residential program which takes care of the formal education, skill development of the trainees during the four-year training period.

The academy has a strong focus on women empowerment through football. Since inception, SFA has trained around 200 footballers and has made tremendous impact on the football fraternity in Goa as well as across India. The graduates from SFA are serving in the national teams, Indian Super League (ISL), I-League clubs of India and clubs in Goa. 7 players have earned the national team cap and several players played the elite ISL.
