Vedanta Sesa Goa held its fourth Football Pop Up Camp at Government High School, Mulgao, Goa

Mulgao, August 26, 2023 – Vedanta Sesa Goa, in its unwavering commitment to youth development and sports promotion, held its fourth Football Pop Up Camp at Government High School, Mulgao, Goa. The event, which took place on August 26, 2023, garnered enthusiastic participation from around 60 students. The camp was attended by acclaimed coaches from the Vedanta Foundation’s flagship CSR initiative Sesa Football Academy (SFA), Mr Joao Rebello, Mr Joyner Antao and Mr Ananth Adkonkar along with Mr —- , Principal, Government High School, Mulgao.

The Football Pop-Up Camps by Vedanta Sesa Goa have been designed to provide young football enthusiasts in the community an opportunity to enhance their skills, foster a love for the sport, and encourage active participation. The camps aim to nurture talent, promote teamwork, and inspire a passion for healthy physical activities among the youth under the expert guidance of the coaches from the SFA.

Guided by experienced coaches, the young participants were exposed to a plethora of activities designed to strengthen their camaraderie, improve technical prowess, and develop freestyling techniques. In addition to the rigorous training regimen, the coaching team also took the opportunity to address the students on the vital subjects of discipline and dedication in the realm of sports. Their insightful talk resonated deeply, inspiring the students to channel their efforts with focus and commitment.

Vedanta Sesa Goa extends its heartfelt gratitude to Government High School, Mulgao for their support and collaboration in making the football pop-up camp a success. This was the fourth such camp held in the Bicholim Taluka since July 23 and underscores Vedanta’s deepening engagement with the community and also underlines its commitment to transforming lives through sporting excellence. Recently, the 7-a-side Vedanta Football Championship 2023 was successfully held at Bicholim and if the enthusiastic response that the tournament received is anything to go by, then the Company’s efforts to provide a sporting platform to the youth are definitely paying rich dividends.

SFA aims to develop quality footballers from the state of Goa and across the country by creating environment for discovering, nurturing, and building talent for Indian Football. The academy identifies and trains talented youngsters, who are passionate about Football at the grassroot level by inducting them into its residential programme and over a period of four years, nurtures and develops them into professional footballers and well-disciplined citizens while taking care of their academic education throughout the residential training programme. SFA has groomed 183 footballers since it’s inception in 1999 and has made tremendous impact on the football fraternity across the country. Most of the academy alumni have represented the National team, I-League clubs and prestigious football clubs across the nation. Apart from Residential football training programmes through Sesa Football Academy, Vedanta has launched Vedanta women’s league (VWL) in collaboration with GFA, which is one of its kind platforms for aspiring women footballers across Goa state. 250+ Women footballers from across Goa has participated in VWL in last 6 editions.

Highlighting its continuing and growing engagement with the community in Bicholim Taluka, Vedanta Sesa Goa recently hosted its fifth pop-up camp at the Government High School, Mulgao. The event, which took place on 09 Sep 23, was attended by almost 50 enthusiastic and young footballers. The camp was held under the aegis of the Sesa Football Academy, Vedanta Foundation’s flagship CSR initiative. A dedicated team of acclaimed SFA coaches conducted the day long camp and imparted invaluable tips and guidance.

The event was attended by Ms Swati Arondekar, the Principal of GHS, Shirodwadi Mulgao, and witnessed by Ashish Pilankar, Head CSR & PR, Bicholim Mines. The coaching team comprised of Joao Rebello (Head Coach), Joyner Antao (Assistant Coach), Ananth Adkonkar (Goalkeeper Coach), and Sailee Bambolkar (Physiotherapist ). The participating students actively engaged with the coaching staff and demonstrated curiosity and willingness to transform their skill levels.

The pop-up football camp was aligned with Vedanta Sesa Goa’s mission to nurture grassroots football development. The primary objective of this camp was to provide a platform for students to express their passion for football and stoke their innate enthusiasm for the sport. The coaching staff conducted various drills, and match scenarios & freestyle exhibitions. Beyond physical skills, the coaches also delved into the crucial aspect of mental health, imparting valuable insights on effective leadership within a team. Furthermore, they underscored the significance of football and regular exercise in promoting overall health and well-being.

Importantly, the camp aimed to instill a positive mindset among the students and enhance their daily routines. In response to the event,Ms Swati Arndkar, Principal GHS stated thanked and appreciated Vedanta Sesa Goa for the initiative and for providing the students and young footballers in Bicholim Taluka an opportunity to hone their skills. She also extended a request for the continuation of such activities in the future.She also emphasized upon the pressing need for such sessions in today’s age, recognizing the prevalence of technology-driven lifestyles among children.

About SESA Football Academy

An initiative of SESA Community Development Foundation (SCDF), SESA Football Academy (SFA) was founded in 1999 for the holistic development of the local youths through football. The academy has created the conditions for discovering, creating and building talent for football. SFA does not restrict itself to football trainings but involves in a long term residential program which takes care of the formal education, skill development of the trainees during the four-year training period.

The academy has a strong focus on women empowerment through football. Since inception, SFA has trained around 200 footballers and has made tremendous impact on the football fraternity in Goa as well as across India. The graduates from SFA are serving in the national teams, Indian Super League (ISL), I-League clubs of India and clubs in Goa. 7 players have earned the national team cap and several players played the elite ISL.
